Santa Barbara County - With an obvious taste for a wide variety of valuables—or simply indiscriminate in acquiring anything that may have resale value—Jeremy Smith, 34, was arrested in the early evening hours of December 21st pursuant to a search of his Lompoc residence by Lompoc Police Department detectives.

According to Lompoc Police Department spokesman Sgt. Nathan Flint, a warrant for Smith’s home had been issued earlier in the day, and was executed just as darkness fell at approximately 6:00 p.m. “He had an outstanding warrant for his arrest,” Flint reported to the media, indicating that there had also been multiple reports of burglaries in the area.

“During the service of the search warrant,” Flint said in his media statement, “detectives located suspected stolen property including various coins, computer equipment, music equipment, and an off-road motorcycle” as well as burglary tools and drug paraphernalia.

Taking Smith into custody was not apparently “without incident” as so many arrests of drug users and property criminals are, as he was charged not only with possession of stolen property, but with obstructing or resisting a peace officer, felony possession of a firearm, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Flint, police are endeavoring to return much of the suspected property to its rightful owners, and they’ve been successful in doing so with respect to the motorcycle, which had apparently been purloined from the premises of a nearby neighbor of Smith’s.
