Barricaded Suspect Finally Surrenders After 90-Minute Standoff

COLTON – Seeking a man wanted on two warrants, police finally arrested three people after a 90-minute standoff on Wednesday morning.

William Dexter Ohlinger, 34, of Colton, was wanted on warrants for identity theft and an outstanding probation violation from San Diego County for fraud. When police made an attempt to talk with him at a residence on the 600 block of West Agua Mansa Rd., he ran inside. A dozen uniformed and plain clothed officers responded to the residences after police heard multiple voices inside, said police. Det. Ray Mendez said the officers originally saw Ohlinger in the front yard at around 10 a.m.

With the residence surrounded, eventually two females emerged from the house to surrender fairly soon after police had assembled. Questioned as to Ohlinger’s whereabouts, however, they were unable to provide his exact location. “They told officers Ohlinger wasn’t in the home,” said Mendez.

Officers used the loudspeaker on a patrol car, demanding Ohlinger surrender. After about 90 minutes, Ohlinger exited through the floor vent from the basement and surrendered to police at around 11:30 a.m. Additionally, the two women, Kimberly Lara Newburg, 41, and Lamanda Theresalyn Rodola, 22, both of Colton, were both arrested for obstructing justice, according to reports. The home was located south of the Slover Mountain cement plant, south of Interstate 10.

No shots were fired during the standoff. Police reports did not say if any of the three suspects had weapons. Officers, armed with tactical gear and assault rifles, entered the home to determine if anyone else was inside.

All three people were booked at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino.
