A man was arrested today after he led California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed pursuit that originated in Bakersfield. According to CHP officials, officers from the Bakersfield area attempted to perform a vehicle stop on Highway 46 near Highway 99 around midnight, on a 2001 Ford pickup, for speeding.

According to CHP, the driver failed to yield and a vehicle pursuit ensued. CHP says the vehicles reached speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour.

According to CHP, the vehicle was stolen in Bakersfield on Monday and was fitted with an altered, stolen license plate. The pursuit continued all the way to Paso Robles where the pickup, after smashing into a Paso Robles Police Department patrol car, wound up in a dead end street blocked by a gate. The driver fled the scene as officers chased him.

A 911 call received by the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office reported a suspicious person trespassing on private property on Mountain Springs Road. CHP officers used a search dog to track the suspect. They found Isidro Munoz Jr., 25, of Bakersfield hiding near a vehicle. He was arrested around 9:40 a.m. on the 1100 block of Mountain Springs Road, according to CHP Officer Mike Muell. He was booked into county Jail on suspicion of auto theft, felony evasion of an officer, possession of stolen property possession of a controlled substance and hit-and-run.
