Deputies Make DUI Arrest After Collision Strikes 3 Girls

RANCHO CUCAMONGA – Three pedestrians were struck down by a driver who was reportedly driving under the influence on Wednesday.

Cory Holker, 29, has a record for multiple citations, according to court records. He was arrested by sheriff’s deputies for felony drunken driving after he struck three 16-year-old girls who were walking home from Alta Loma High School. All are expected to recover, according to a sheriff’s department statement.

The girls, two freshmen and a sophomore, were injured just after 2:30 p.m. as they walked home along Base Line Rd., east of Garnet St. A sheriff’s department release reported that Holker’s car, a silver Toyota Camry, was reportedly passing another vehicle in an eastbound lane on Base Line when he lost control. The car jumped the curb, struck a tree and the rear of his car spun around and struck the girls. A resident who lives across the street heard the commotion and called 9-1-1.

Ambulances were on the scene within minutes, while other students were attempting to aid the victims. Part of their assistance included helping lift the rear of the Camry off one of those struck. One of the victims suffered a broken leg. All three victims were taken to area hospitals.

“The children are expected to survive their injuries,” said Sgt. Anthony Vega, a county deputy.

A breathalyzer was administered to Holker by Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff O’Donnell. Holker has been cited in the county before for failure to wear a seatbelt, speeding and following another vehicle too closely. There are no past citations listed for DUI in county court records. Holker was booked into West Valley Detention Center, said authorities.
