Fresno Man Arrested for Store Clerk’s Murder, Police Search for Second suspect

FRESNO – Police arrested one man for the armed robbery of a convenience store and the murder of the store’s clerk, and are on the lookout for a second suspect.

The Fresno Police Department arrested 21-year-old Christopher Roberts of Fresno for the murder of 45-year-old Kashmir Manes on Aug. 23. Police have identified 35-year-old Dwayne Dodson as a second suspect in connection to the robbery and murder. Both Roberts and Dodson are known gang members.

The incident took place around 11 p.m. on Thursday night at the Super 1 convenience store at 3701 E. Tulare Street near 7^th Street. Authorities say Roberts and Dodson walked into the store and shot Manes, who worked as a clerk at the store. One of the men then hit a second employee in the head with a heavy object.

“The second clerk was talking and able to walk to the ambulance,” said Fresno Police Lt. Mike Doyle.

The second clerk was expected to be okay, but Manes, a father of two who had worked at the convenience store for more than 20 years, died a half hour after being transported to Community Regional Medical Center.

Police say Dodson, who is still on the run, was the gunman in the botched robbery. He is a discharged parolee, and police say he should be considered armed and dangerous. Roberts, who is on community-supervision parole for gun possession, was responsible for beating the other employee. He was arrested by police on Friday. The murder weapon has yet to be recovered.
