SANTA MARIA – Police have arrested two known gang members in connection with an alleged drive-by shooting that happened late Saturday morning.

Uriel Delgado

Pedro Ramirez and Uriel Delgado, both documented Santa Maria street gang members, were arrested Saturday and Sunday, respectively, and booked at Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder for their roles in the alleged drive-by shooting, police said.

Both men are also facing an enhancement charge of being a known street gang member when the alleged shooting occurred.

Officers were called to the area of Curryer and Cypress just before noon on Saturday, Jan. 26, for reports of shots fired. When police arrived at the scene, they also heard gun shots. Their investigation revealed that a vehicle drove by the residential neighborhood, where children were playing outside, and fired at the victim.

The unidentified victim was located at Marian Medical Center, suffering from a single gun shot wound. Police aren’t releasing the individual’s identity.

After an exhaustive search for the shooter by Santa Maria Police Department gang detectives, the suspect vehicle was located, which led to the identification and arrest of both the alleged driver and shooter, police said.

Ramirez, 21, was arrested late Saturday evening, and Delgado, 22, turned himself in at the Police Department the following morning. At the time of the shooting, Ramirez, a parolee, was on post community release supervision as a result of AB109.
