Hemet police seek man for alleged sexual assault attempt on teen

ANZA – A teenage girl was attacked late Monday afternoon by a suspect who is still being sought by police.

Hemet police are calling the attack a sexual assault, taking place at 4:30 p.m. when a 16-year-old was walking home from Hamilton High School. The attack took place in the vicinity of Hill Street and Engstrom Road, said police.

Sgt. Wally Clear, police spokesman, said she took a shortcut through an open field, reporting an attack by an adult male who took her to the ground. During the attack, police reports said, she fought back and was able to free herself from the attacker.

The victim ran to the home of a nearby friend and reported the attack.

Clear said the victim was not injured during the attack. Police did not report if the suspect tore any of the victim’s clothing, nor did they speak about witnesses.

The suspect, said Clear, is a native American or Hispanic male in his mid-50s, about 5-feet, 10-inches with a medium to stocky build. He had a dark beard with no mustache and green eyes.

During the attack, the suspect wore a hoodie sweat shirt and camouflage pants.

Anza is a Riverside County city located about 35 miles south of Hemet. Hamilton High School is located about one and a half miles from the site of the attack.
