Hollister Authorities arrest two for Serial Burglaries

HOLLISTER—Authorities with the Hollister Police Department and the San Benito County Sheriff’s department joined together in an intensive investigation that lead to the arrest of Thomas Shores, 30, and Steven Ramsey, 20, both of Hollister, on Burglary charges.

On Saturday evening, several homes in the Hollister city limits and in San Benito County were burglarized.  An investigation led San Benito County Sheriff’s Deputies to area businesses were credit cards that had been taken from victim’s homes had been used. That investigation led them to Shores and a description of a suspected vehicle.  During an attempt to contact Shores, suspect Ramsey drove by in the suspected vehicle. Authorities stopped the vehicle and discovered that the vehicle contained stolen property from both burglary cases.

“The two suspects are tied to at least seven burglaries, that we know of right now, as the cases are still under investigation.”  Hollister Police Department interim Chief Dave Westrick said.

A joint task force between Hollister Police Department and San Benito County Sheriff office, called U.N.I.T., served a search warrant at Ramsey’s residence.  They found more stolen property from more burglary cases throughout the city and county. The task force also found property from an unreported residential burglary as well.  Most of the recovered stolen property has been returned to it rightful owners.

Ramsey was booked into San Benito County Jail on six county of possession of stolen property, forgery, fraudulent use of a credit card, possession of a controlled substance and being under the influence of a controlled substance.  He is being held on a $96,000 bail.

Shores was booked into the San Benito County Jail on possession of stolen property and fraudulent use of a credit card.  He is being held on a $30,000 bail.

This case is still an active investigation.
