Home invasion burglary suspects arrested

FONTANA – A burglary arrest on June 10 may have been a bigger catch for Fontana police than originally thought.

Fontana police arrested two men, allegedly trying to burglarize the home of a woman at home alone, but the suspects may be tied to a string of crimes dating back to last year.

“We’re investigating that possibility,” said Fontana police Sgt. Jeff Decker.
According to reports, the woman heard someone trying to get into the backdoor patio door of  Village of Heritage house at the 13400 block on Huntington Street. She called 911.

When officers arrived, they discovered Derrick Booker, 24, in the backyard. Police pursued Booker after he jumped the fence and led them on a short chase.

Officers then began searching for a possible lookout or getaway driver, eventually spotting Preston Cross, 26, sitting in a vehicle near the Huntington Street home.

“He was laying kind of low in the car, trying not to look too suspicious,” said Decker, “which made him suspicious.”

Investigators believe that at least four burglaries that took place as far back as 2008 may be related to the two men arrested.

Both suspects are from Pomona. They were booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on charges of suspicion of burglary.
