SACRAMENTO — A masked bank robber with a bad sense of direction took an errant turn during his getaway Tuesday, walking into a second bank in which he removed his mask and had his image recorded on bank surveillance.

Sacramento police have released the surveillance photos, hoping someone will recognize the man who jumped the counter of the Umpqua Bank on River Park Drive and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect strode into the bank just after 1 p.m. Tuesday, leaping into the teller area and demanding money from an employee. Upon his escape, the suspect exited through the rear door, which leads into an interior lobby shared by other businesses in the building.

The suspect, a black male in his 30s, ran into one of those businesses, American River Bank, took off his mask, quickly realized he went the wrong way and ran back out — but not before being caught on the bank’s surveillance system.

The suspect is said to be between 6’2” and 6’4” in height and weigh approximately 220 pounds. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a black Raiders baseball hat, light-colored long-sleeve shirt with vertical stripes, white pants and white tennis shoes. He wore a white mask over his face.

The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to this crime to contact Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
