Oops! Calls Cops and Gets Busted Too

Ventura County - It would be reasonable to presume that when one is engaged in felonious drug activities, one would not make a habit of calling the cops to the site of such activity for any reason whatsoever.
But sometimes anger can cloud our judgment.

Such appears to have the case on October 19th in the hamlet of Piru, Ca., which lies in the foothills above the coastal Santa Clara River valley running east-west between Ventura and Santa Clarita. Well known for being the site of countless movie and television location productions, and with only 2,000 inhabitants, one of the town’s citizens apparently didn’t give much thought to the possible consequences of calling 911 Emergency for police assistance.
Getting a call from VCSD Dispatch, Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies from the Santa Clara Valley Sub-station arrived on the 3600 block of East Telegraph Road, expecting to merely investigate a report of a vehicular assault. Wayne Cain, 48, of San Antonio, Texas, had called to accuse his “business partner” of driving into him with his car following a verbal dispute over “wages” Cain claimed were owed him. According to Ventura County Sheriff spokesman Sgt. Mike Horne, “the victim was treated by paramedics at the scene” for minor injuries.
Investigation at the scene revealed that the reported assault suspect, Raymond Grams, 48, also of San Antonio, Texas, shared living quarters with his accuser in the house at the scene of Cain’s injuries. While interrogations were being conducted, deputies discovered “significant cultivation of marijuana plants,” Horne reported to the media. At that time, narcotics detectives were then summoned and arrived at the scene armed with search warrants.
Shortly thereafter, “a sophisticated growing operation” was found involving multiple rooms of the residence equipped with high-intensity lighting, fully-operational industrial-grade air conditioners, exhaust fans, and carbon dioxide generators. Aside from the mechanized tools for indoor cultivation, a total of 541 living marijuana plants were found.
Cain—quick to call the cops on his partner–will soon be in a criminal courtroom himself, as he was arrested on charges of cultivation of marijuana for sales. For his part, Grams was arrested and booked into Ventura County Jail on the same charge in addition to assault with a deadly weapon.
