Watch out for telephone scammers

From the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office comes this story of telephone scams in their county –

“Over the past several days, the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office has received a number of calls regarding active telephone scams.

These scams revolve around individuals who claim to be law enforcement, contacting Trinity County residents via telephone. The most commonly utilized name associated with these scams has been Lieutenant Jones.

The scammers tell the resident that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. They then tell the resident that the warrant will not be executed, so long as the resident provides payment. The methods of payment vary, but primarily revolve around pre-paid credit cards.

The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that law enforcement will not contact you via telephone and advise you of a warrant. Additionally, we will never attempt to obtain your credit card information or seek payment for any reason, via the telephone.

If you have been the victim of one of these incidents, please contact the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office at 530-623-2611.
