Police pursuit leads to officer involved shooting and crash in Vallejo

A police pursuit that began in Oakley ended in an officer involved shooting and the suspect crashing a vehicle at the Interstate 80-780 interchange on Thursday.

According to the Vallejo Times Herald, Timothy Morales, 32, of Vallejo, was taken to the hospital and was reportedly treated for minor injuries after a piece of shrapnel injured his shoulder, Vallejo police Sgt. Jeff Bassett said.

The pursuit began after the suspect reportedly was seen by a K-9 police officer in Oakley driving a 1995 Acura that had been reported stolen.

The suspect failed to yield to the officer and a pursuit eventually led to I-780 in Vallejo, 35 miles from Oakley. Dozens of California Highway Patrol and Vallejo Police officers joined in the pursuit, and the suspect was forced off the road after circling an area in Vallejo near Sonoma Boulevard and Curtola Parkway at 11:47 a.m.

Police said the suspect was forced up an embankment at the eastbound connector ramp between the two highways. Officers exited their cars with the intent of arresting Morales, but the suspect allegedly backed into a police car then drove toward the officers, according to the Vallejo Times Herald.

Multiple shots were fired by both Vallejo and Oakley police officer in self defense, but no bullets hit the suspect. No officer injuries were reported.

According to the Vallejo Times Herald, Morales was wanted on a warrant for probation violation at the time of his arrest. He has received multiple felony convictions in the past and has served five prison sentences for theft, drug and weapons-related offenses.
