Redlands Police Seek Information on Suspect in Armed Robbery

REDLANDS – Police are seeking a suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery of a yogurt store on the west side on Monday night.

Shortly before closing, at 8 p.m., a man brandishing a handgun entered the Golden Spoon shop at 1981 West Redlands Blvd., wearing a black ski mask and a gray, hooded sweatshirt. One of the store’s employees tried to call police, said city spokesman Carl Baker, but the suspect walked to the back of the store and grabbed the phone away. The robber took cash from both registers and fled on foot.  He was last seen running west on Redlands Blvd. Baker said no one was injured during the robbery.

Redlands police, which has solved some crimes in recent months by way of video, hasn’t revealed if information was available. Most of its videotaping availability is in the downtown sector. This particular crime was committed about three miles from areas where videotaping can be used.

“At this point,” said Baker, “this is an active investigation,” adding he could not comment on what evidence police have in its possession. The only witnesses, he said, were employees of the business. There were apparently no customers or witnesses outside the store, said Baker. “If there were witnesses,” said Baker, “we would like them to contact police and the detectives would want to talk with them.”

Det. Frank Rocha (909-798-7580), who is seeking any information about the suspect, is heading the investigation on the case. Anonymous tips can be provided by texting 274637 using the keyword “REDTIP.” Certain non-emergency crimes may also be reported online using the Redlands Police Department’s CopLogic reporting system.
