Neighbors happy about bringing safety back

Clovis is a little safer with Hector Garcia, 30, behind bars after he was arrested Sept. 11 at his apartment in the 500 block of South Argyle in Fresno (east of Clovis Avenue, between Kings Canyon and Tulare Avenue.) Police narcotics detectives had gathered information after a large number of heroin addicts in Clovis had been reportedly buying their drug of choice from Garcia, and purchasing the drug in larger quantities than they were used to purchasing, said police.

On Sept. 27, detectives served a warrant at Garcia’s apartment and quickly confiscated four and a half ounces of heroin packaged and ready for sale, marijuana, two firearms, one was loaded, and $2,400 in cash from previous sales. A neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous, said she and her neighbors knew there was something illegal going on at the apartment and they were glad police made the bust.

The street value of the heroin, said police, was between $6,000 and $7,000. Garcia was arrested for possession of heroin for sales, possession of marijuana for sale, and for being armed in the commission of a felony.

Narcotics detectives said they believe they have saved some lives with the recent bust, stopping the sale of heroin.

“I think we saved some lives,” said a detective. “The quantity Garcia had in his apartment could have easily led to overdoses or even death. We were very happy to get him off the streets.”
