Sloan Arrested at Her Home

SANTA CRUZ—On Sunday December 2, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 383 Nicasio Way in Soquel on a report that wanted felon Amanda Sloan, 30, of Soquel was in her home.

“We had information that she was trying to see her kids,” Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Deputy April Skalland said.  “Her mother called and told us that she was at her house so we went to check out that lead.”

Three uniformed patrol deputies went to her home on Nicasio Way and attempted to set up a perimeter as other deputies responded to the scene.  As the other deputies arrived, Sloan fired a handgun from the residence toward the deputies.

Sloan exited the home with the gun pointed at herself and then pointed the gun at the deputies in a threatening manner.  A deputy used a rifle to fire multiple rounds striking Sloan twice in the leg and once in the hand as she repeatedly ignored deputies’ commands to submit to a lawful arrest.

“Amanda Sloan had made threatening statements to her mother that she was going to commit suicide by cop,” Skalland added. “When the mother called she did tell us that she did have a gun.”

She was taken into custody and emergency medical assistance was provided.  She was transported to an undisclosed medical facility where she remains in stable condition.  Deputies recovered a handgun at the scene and no other injures were reported in this incident.

“She was taken into custody and they transported out of the area to be airlifted for treatment for her wounds to her leg and hand,” Skalland reported.

Witnesses were interviewed at the scene. The Sheriff Department along with the District Attorney’s Office are conducting a thorough investigation.  The Deputy involved in the shooting was placed on routine administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.

Sloan was wanted on a $900.000 warrant stemming from November 11 incident that involved the Capitola Police department where she failed to stop for a vehicle violation and then sped-off firing at officers.  It is anticipated that Sloan will be facing additional charges as a result of Sunday’s incident.

This case has been forwarded to the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s office for review.
