SPD Arrest 2008 Christmas Morning Homicide Suspect

The Sacramento Police Department (SPD) have arrested 29 year-old Edgar Carrillo for the 2008 murder of Francisco Torres, according to an official press release issued on June 8.

According to the SPD, on Thursday, December 25, 2008, at approximately 12:07 a.m., officers responded to the 2300 block of North Avenue regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a male Hispanic in his 20s who had been shot. The victim, Francisco Torres, was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene, and it was reported the suspect and victim were acquaintences and had gotten into a verbal altercation prior to the shooting.

The SPD’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to investigage, and during the course of the investigation detectives reportedly developed information that the suspect had fled to Mexico. According to the SPD, homicide detectives worked diligently to seek a warrant for Carrillo and on May 9, 2011, suspect Carrillo was arrested in Mexico on an unlawful flight to avoid prosecution warrant.

On Thursday, June 7, 2012, Carrillo was reportedly flown from Mexico to the US by federal officials, and detectives from the SPD took custody of Carrillo and booked him into the Sacramento County Jail for the murder of Francisco Torres.
