Another blow has been dealt out to Al Qaeda’s main ally in Southeast Asia in the form of the arrest of their suspected military leader Adu Dujana.

Abu Dujana was in connection with more that two bombings in Jakarta. He was captured by an anti-terrorism unit Saturday on the central island of Java, along with seven other terrorism suspects.

The Indonesian authorities suspect that Adu took command of terrorism operations for Jemaah Islamiah, an Al Qaeda operative still active in many Southeast Asian countries, authorities believe Abu took command of operations after the 2003 arrest of Riduan Isamuddin, also known as Hambali, in Thailand.

Abu Dujana is a veteran of the guerrilla war against Soviet forces in Afghanistan in the 1980s. Abu Dujana was secretary to Jemaah Islamiah’s alleged spiritual leader. This Jemaah Islamiah has stated that they are fighting to turn most of Southeast Asia into an Islamic state.

So far its most devastating attack was in 2002. When there were suicide bombings on the resort island of Bali. These multiple suicide bombings killed 202 people.

Police were able to get Abu Dujana after a tip from close friends of Abu Dujana revieled his location. The Police then raided the village of Kabarongan in central Java on Saturday.

During this operation, officers shot a man in the leg as he tried to escape on a motorcycle. He was identified as Yusrun Mahmudi. But after a few days police realized that the wounded man was Abu Dujana.
