FREMONT — An investigation of a home invasion led police to arrest a man with outstanding warrants for additional crimes. Fremont police officers placed the suspect under surveillance and arrested him in San Francisco on September 12.

The suspect, identified as a transient, 30-year-old Alexander J. Rhodes, is suspected of committing numerous crimes. In addition to home invasion, Rhodes is suspected of sexually molesting a small child.

The most recent crime, a home invasion occurred in the middle of the afternoon on September 10. The victim arrived home to see a suspicious car parked in his driveway. And there were two men peering inside his front windows.

Before the victim knew what was happening, the two men dragged him inside his own residence at gunpoint. Once inside the intruders immediately demanded that he give them cannabis and cash.

The victim was able to break free from a chokehold, before all three men struggled for a handgun, according to Fremont police. Several gunshots went off inside the residence, apparently hitting no one.

However, the duo pistol whipped the victim. Nevertheless he was able to escape from his residence and call 911. The intruders fled and the victim was later transported by ambulance to a hospital to treat a head injury.

While investigating this home invasion, Fremont detectives learned the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office also wanted Rhodes. In fact, the sheriff’s office held a $1 million warrant for his arrest. Authorities wanted him for child molestation and burglary.

His charges include burglary, carjacking, robbery, sexual assault of a child, and forcible acts of sexual penetration.

Meanwhile, police are still looking for a second suspect involved in the home invasion. Anyone with information can call 510-790-6954.
