FamiliesFirst Adolescent Resident Cited for Assault

DAVIS – Davis police officers cited a 15 year old FamiliesFirst group home resident on suspicion of assaulting a staff member. The assault allegedly took place at the FamiliesFirst facility located at 2100 Fifth Street, two days prior to the issuance of the citation on August 9.

The troubled non-profit foster care facilty has seen residents commit several alleged assaults and rape over the past few months. On July 5, Yolo County’s mental health department revoked FamiliesFirst’s certification to provide mental health services to children covered by Medi-Cal.

The staff member received only minor injuries from the 15-year-old assailant during the latest incident.

In light of these recent events, a FamiliesFirst employee who wished to remain anonymous commented the facility’s future “is uncertain.”

Prior to the most recent incident, News10 had reported that the staff was being reduced to 43 employees after 77 were to be laid off. FamiliesFirst spokesperson Kristine Austin had stated that the reason for the reductions were that only seven children remained in their residential program, down from 63 in early June of this year. Of those 63, six were moved to other facilities and 50 graduated from the program, leaving the seven remaining.
