Man with Machete Arrested on Burglary, Attempted Carjacking

A transient man was arrested in Visalia on March 15 after an unsuccessful carjacking and a burglary.

Terry Albert Morrison, 42, a transient from Visalia, was arrested at 11:19 a.m. on charges of attempted carjacking, residential burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of a dangerous weapon, according to Visalia Police reports.

Morrison was identified by an area woman as the man who charged at her as she held her baby, and attempted to steal her car. She told police she was just getting to the 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix when Morrison stopped his bike in front of the car and ran toward the woman, pushing her away from the car, according to Visalia Police Sgt. Steve Phillips.

Morrison allegedly got into the car and tried to start it as the victim ran away with her infant—and the car keys. Morrison, unable to start the car, got out and took off, Sgt. Phillips said. His victim called the police.

“As (Visalia Police officers) were looking for him we got a call of someone in a garage,” said Sgt. Phillips. A man fitting Morrison’s description was seen going into a residential garage and stealing a machete. The locations are “about a block apart,” Sgt. Phillips said.

Police arrived and found Morrison, with a machete in his possession, and took him into custody.
