West Hills Man Stabs Fellow Party-Goer/Basketball Star
IRVINE, CA – A Saturday night party that spilled over into Sunday morning set the scene for a fight between two men, one of whom ended up in jail and the other in the hospital with a stab wound to the abdomen. The Orange County Register reports that the victim of the stabbing was Andre Murillo, 19, the MVP of El Toro High’s 2008 basketball team. Murrillo is in stable condition but is still in intensive care with a 3 1/2 inch knife wound very near his heart, explained his parents, Vera and Mike Murillo of Lake Forest. “The first thing Andre said to us before he went into surgery early Sunday was for us to pray for the person who did this to him,” continued Mike Murillo. “He said he’d be all right.”
According to police, they responded to a report of a stabbing in the 100 block of Montgomery just after 12:30 Sunday morning. Upon arrival they found the wounded victim who was treated by the Orange County Fire Authority before being taken to the hospital.
Investigating officers learned that the suspect was Abdullah Wahidi, 21, of West Hills and that Wahidi had immediately fled the scene after the stabbing.
Detectives followed up in West Hills and were able arrest Wahidi near his home, setting his bail at $500,000. He is expected to be arraigned Tuesday.
According to witnesses, the fight stemmed from an argument between Murillo and Wahidi at a house party being attended by young adults. The argument between the two men was reportedly taken outside where it escalated into a brawl and ultimately resulted in the stabbing.
The suspect weapon has yet to be recovered.
