Female pedestrian dies after being hit by bus
SACRAMENTO — A 49-year-old woman died from injuries sustained after being struck by a Greyhound Bus making a turn in downtown Sacramento Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators with the Sacramento Police Department’s Major Collision Unit believe the bus driver was exiting the terminal and preparing to make a right onto L Street shortly before the accident occurred.
The victim, identified as Roxanne Young, was crossing 7th Street on foot, and was about mid-block on L Street outside the crosswalk when a vehicle reportedly blocking the driver’s view moved. When it did, the bus driver proceeded to make his turn, striking the pedestrian.
When police arrived to the scene just before 1 p.m., Sacramento firefighters were already treating the victim. She was taken to the University of California, Davis Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.
This marks the third traffic fatality this week in Sacramento and the 12th overall this year.
