Police looking for Halloween shooter
ELK GROVE – Police have identified the suspect who reportedly gutshot a man during the course of a heated argument that escalated to dangerous levels on Halloween night.
Elk Grove police say Sacramento resident Irvin Laverne Cook, 24, should be considered armed and dangerous after allegedly ending an argument by firing a gun at his rival and fleeing the scene in a gray Buick.
The 24-year-old victim suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the lower abdomen. Police say the victim and his alleged assailant got involved in an argument in the 9200 block of Elk Grove Boulevard. The verbal dispute became a physical one, with the pair getting into a fistfight. Witnesses say Cook then pulled a semi-automatic firearm and put a bullet in his victim’s stomach.
Witnesses told Elk Grove police that Cook then fled the area in a gray 2003 Buick Century with the license plate 5SIE546.
Police are requesting the public’s help in tracking down Cook. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Cook is asked to call the Elk Grove Police Department at (916) 714-5115 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357).
