LOMPOC — Reports of an unidentified subject exhibiting erratic behavior and waving a gun on the 1100 block of N. Sixth Street caused the Lompoc Police Department to dispatch both officers and members of its Special Enforcement Team to the area Monday evening.
Around 5:30 p.m., police surrounded a residence one block south of the reported location, where the subject was believed to be hiding. SET forces made several unsuccessful attempts to call the subject out of the building before making entry. The subject, however, was nowhere to be found, and his or her current whereabouts are uncertain.
A release issued by the Lompoc Police Department early Tuesday morning stated that the incident remains under investigation and that no names would be released at the time.
The Special Enforcement Team primarily trains to address incidents involving hostage situations, high-risk arrests and barricaded subjects. Each member must attend a SWAT course and the unit convenes regularly to train.
