Woman fights off fondling intruder
IRVINE — A woman relaxing on her bed faced a terrifying encounter just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, when an intruder entered her apartment and assaulted her.
Following the incident and a brief foot chase, police were able to apprehend the suspect, 20-year-old Victor Gillespie of Irvine, and book him into city jail.
According to police, the female victim, who lives with roommates but was alone in her apartment at the time of the attack, was lying clothed on her bed when the suspect came into her room and climbed on top of her. Described as a “strange man,” the suspect then reportedly began to “fondle” the woman.
The victim responded by screaming and fighting the man off, prompting his retreat from the apartment. The victim then quickly contacted police, providing them with a description of her attacker.
Police responded and confronted Gillespie, who fled, instigating the short chase before his arrest.
Police believe the suspect entered through an open sliding glass door. The victim did not suffer any physical injuries from the attack.
