Drunk driver lands man in the hospital
COSTA MESA — A Newport Beach man was taken into custody early Thursday morning after colliding with a truck and injuring its driver.
Police responded to reports of an injury traffic collision involving two cars on Placentia Avenue north of 17th street, and found the victim, a 56 year old Hispanic male, had suffered a head injury due to the May 20 crash.
Jeffrey Scott Marshall, 27, of Newport Beach, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was booked into the Costa Mesa Jail and awaiting transfer to the Orange County Jail, according to police.
The scene unfolded with Marshall heading south down Placentia in a black Infinity G35. The victim had pulled up to the gate of a business off Placentia in his Ford F150 pickup truck and exited the vehicle to open the gate. Marshall proceeded to collide with the Ford F150, the impact smashing the truck into the victim.
The identity of the victim, who was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, is being withheld pending the notification of his family.
