Suspect arrested in Folsom Lake College bomb threat

EL DORADO – The suspect in a recent bomb threat at Folsom Lake College’s El Dorado Center was arrested Thursday night and is being held at the El Dorado County Jail.

Jason La Rue, 22, of Gold River, was arrested for false bomb report and possession of a weapon on school grounds.

At 1:30 p.m. Thursday, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Los Rios Police about a subject with a gun at the college’s El Dorado Center on Green Valley Road. Los Rios Police was holding La Rue in custody at the time.

Lt. Bryan Golmitz, spokesman for the sheriff’s department, said officers found out after interviewing La Rue that he had planted explosive devices on campus.

“They located a couple of suspicious packages. The sheriff’s office used their bomb robot to render one of the packages safe,” Golmitz said. “After inspecting all the packages, there were no explosive materials or devices.”

Students were evacuated and the campus, including the nearby Indian Creek Elementary School and Office of Education, was locked down. At about 3 p.m., officials lifted the lock down, and parents were notified that they can pick up their kids.

All students and faculty are safe, Golmitz said.

Further investigation also revealed that the gun La Rue was carrying was only an “airsoft gun” and was not fired during the incident.

La Rue is being held on a $10,000 bail for false bomb report and $35,000 for possession of a weapon on school grounds.
