Police arrest suspect in Taco Bell killing

RIALTO – Police arrested a suspect Wednesday in the April 10 slaying of a 20-year-old man who was getting food in a drive-thru lane at an area restaurant.

Rialto police Chief Mark Kling said that Dalray Kawane Andrews, 20, was arrested and booked into West Valley Detention Center on charges of robbery and murder.

At a press conference held at Rialto City Hall, Kling said that Andrews shot Joshua Huizar “for no apparent reason” during a 1 a.m. armed robbery.

“We will do everything we can to make sure he never goes free,” said Kling, announcing that Andrews was taken into custody at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the suspect’s San Bernardino probation agent’s office.

Kling did not say why Andrews, who is being held without bail, was on probation.

Evidence obtained at the shooting scene, the Taco Bell near Base Line and Willow Avenue, linked Andrews to Huizar’s killing.

Early on April 10, police said that Andrews walked up to Huizar’s car, which also included an 18-year-old female, demanding his wallet and property. Accounts state that Huizar gave his wallet. When the gunman reached through the drive-thru window to steal items from inside the restaurant, Huizar attempted to drive way.

Andrews, say police, shot and killed Huizar. Rialto police have also identified him as part of a San Bernardino street gang.

Huizar’s funeral was scheduled for today.

“He was just a young man with a date, trying to get food for himself and his girlfriend,” Kling remarked.
