One of two suspects arrested in homicide of Solano student-athlete
FAIRFIELD – The Fairfield Police Department has one suspect in custody but is still searching for a second in the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old Solano Community College student-athlete on Thursday.
Kenneth Franklin, 23, of Fairfield is being held in Solano County Jail for the murder of Ennis Johnson, who was a member of Solano’s football and men’s basketball teams.
The Fairfield Police Department received a call around 11:15 p.m. Thursday from a resident of the 2500 block of Hilborn Rd. The caller stated that they just returned home to find their son bloody and unconscious in their apartment. Police responded quickly and medical personnel were summoned. The victim was pronounced dead a short time later.
An investigation was conducted and it was quickly determined that the victim died at the hands of one or more suspects. Officials also believe that Johnson was targeted by associates of his and was robbed of personal items at the time of his murder.
According to the Daily Republic newspaper, Franklin was arrested at a Shoreline Circle home in Fairfield around noontime on Thursday. Later that night, a SWAT team surrounded the Vallejo home of 18-year-old Hasan McCaulie. The home was raided and searched but McCaulie was not found. He is still being sought by police.
McCaulie is described as a black male, 5-feet-9 inches tall, 155 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He is believed to be in possession of several handguns and is considered armed and dangerous. Officials say McCaulie maintains residences in Vallejo and Richmond.
Johnson, who was majoring in electronics and technology at Solano, was well-liked by his teammates and fellow students.
“He was a positive influence for us,” said Solano football coach Floyd Burnsed in a statement released by the school.
Solano men’s basketball coach John Nagle added that he’s fortunate to be surrounded by loving and caring people.
“We are all doing the best we can during these tough times,” he said. “We have a lot of people praying for us.”
Anyone with information regarding McCaulie is asked to contact the local police agency of the jurisdiction that McCaulie is seen in or the Fairfield police department at (707) 428-7300. Callers may be anonymous by calling (707) 644-STOP.
