Sac County pair seized in battery theft case
Woodland police arrested a man and woman they say joined forces for a night of thievery outside a local warehouse.
Sgt. Frank Ritter said officers were dispatched at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday to investigate reports of a theft in progress at the Target warehouse, 2050 E. Beamer St., where two people had been spotted taking batteries out of construction vehicles.
Police set up a perimeter and quickly apprehended the woman, 18-year-old Anna Tomak of Rancho Cordova. Her alleged accomplice, Folsom resident Ilya Sytay, 20, fled on foot into a nearby thistle field but was captured a short time later with the help of a police K-9 team.
Both suspects were lodged at the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of grand theft and conspiracy, while Sytay faces an additional charge of possessing a controlled substance, Ritter said.
Police are asking anyone with additional information about this crime to contact the Woodland Police Department at (530) 661-7800. Callers may remain anonymous.
