CHINO – Three men are under arrest and other possible suspects are being sought in connection with a fatal shooting early Sunday morning.
Richard Martinez was shot just after 4 a.m. at a residences in the 6700 block of Primrose Ct. He was taken by air ambulance to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he died just before 10 a.m., according to the San Bernardino County coroner.
Police arrested Rudy Guzman, 25, of Montclair, Ruben Herrera, 22, of Rancho Cucamonga at 1 p.m. on Sunday. They were booked into West Valley Detention Center on charges of suspicion of murder.
Later that day, police arrested Cupertino Carreno, 26, of Ontario on a parole violation. He has not yet been charged with murder, said officials. Carreno was picked up on Fourth St. in nearby Ontario.
Michelle Van Der Linden, spokesperson for Chino police, said there was a large gathering of people at the residence well into the early hours on Sunday.
“An argument broke out inside the house,” she said, “and then a second argument broke out outside the house. Unfortunately, Mr. Martinez was shot outside.”
Chino police, she said, are seeking additional suspects.
“Right now,” said Van Der Linden, “detectives aren’t really giving out a whole lot more information.”
Questions on the nature of the arguments taking place, if any weapons had been recovered, or if the suspects and victim are connected to any gangs aren’t ready to be answered, she said.
Chino police is seeking additional information (Det. Carlos Dominguez, 909-464-8313).
