Canyon lake coach arrested for alleged teen sex
CANYON LAKE – Police arrested the boys’ freshman basketball coach at Temescal Canyon High School on Friday, suspected of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl last summer.
Faysal Jahad Hill, 34, who was also a substitute teacher in the Elsinore school district, was arrested at his home in the 22800 block of Canyon Lake Drive North, booked on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse, said reports.
On Monday, Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Patrick Chavez said Hill was suspected of having an inappropriate relationship with a female who was 17 during the summer months of 2011.
The victim was not identified due to her age.
“Information was provided to the school resource officer,” said Chavez, “that a male teacher was having an inappropriate relationship with a student.”
Investigators determined that there was enough evidence in the report to arrest Hill. The alleged victim attends Temescal Canyon High School, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Corporal Courtney Donoho.
School officials told police that Hill had been employed by the Lake Elsinore Unified School District for about three years. At Temescal Canyon High School he has been a resident substitute for the past two years, filling in wherever needed.
Officials also said he has been placed on unpaid administrative leave.
Hill was arrested at a gated residence in Canyon Lake, said police, who also said the relationship occurred away from the school grounds.
It was a “third party,” according to Donoho, that reported the relationship to a school official, according to Lt. Daniel Ybarra of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Donoho said the person that reported the relationship was a student.
Ybarra, meanwhile, said there were no indications on whether or not Hill had inappropriate contact with other students. Investigation is continuing, he said.
Over a week earlier, a Temecula middle school teacher, James Pinckard, 56, had been arrested and charged on suspicion of having sex with a 17-year-old girl who had once been a student of the suspect at Day Middle School. The alleged victim is now a student at Chaparral High School in Temecula.
