Police Still Seek Shooter In Redlands Killing
REDLANDS – Redlands police are investigating a shooting outside a downtown bar early Saturday that left one man dead and two others wounded.
Kruze Levusi Kuaea, 22, of Calimesa, died a short time later, according to the San Bernardino County coroner’s office.
On Monday, police spokesman Carl Baker said there have been no updates regarding suspects, nor motives. Police are still searching for the shooter, who is described as a Hispanic man in his early 20s, 5-feet-7-inches, about 150 pounds.
Police were called to Charlie Jewell’s Restaurant at 1 East State St. shortly before 1:30 a.m. when reports of gunshots were made. Three victims were found with gunshot wounds, said Baker.
He said witnesses told police that a fight had broken out inside the restaurant on the corner of Orange and State streets, but Charlie Jewell’s employees moved the men involved outside. Baker said a short time later, one man shot three of the other men involved in the fight.
“We respond periodically to disturbances at the downtown bars,” said Baker, “including Charlie Jewell’s, but nothing of this degree.”
Baker said the city has surveillance cameras in that downtown area, “and the video is being reviewed by investigators to determine what, if any, evidence there may be.”
All three victims, including Kuaea, were taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center, located in the next city. A 22-year-old man was in serious but stable condition while another victim, 23, is expected to survive his injuries. Baker said police would not release the names of the two injured men, but said they were likely from the Calimesa area, a city located about 10 miles east of Redlands.
