Milpitas carjacking suspect sought
South Bay authorities are on the lookout for a carjacking suspect who led police on a chase from Milpitas to San Jose Tuesday morning and continues to evade arrest.
SJPD officials say San Jose police officers responded to a call for assistance from Milpitas police, who were involved in a vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash at Seven Trees Boulevard and Capitol Expressway in San Jose at about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday.
The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Jarek Brown, was able to escape the vehicle and fled on foot into a residential neighborhood. Police, believing Brown was armed, swarmed the area, but were unable to locate their suspect.
A short time later, police say, an unidentified 80-year-old man told responding officers that a strange man was in his home in the 200 block of El Cajon Drive. Within minutes, Brown was allegedly seen stealing the man’s car from his garage and speeding away. During his flight, Brown struck a police motorcycle, but no injuries were reported.
Brown remains at large and San Jose and Milpitas police continue to actively search for him.
Anyone with information on the case or the whereabouts of Jarek Brown is asked to contact Det. Jason Tanner with the SJPD’s Robbery Unit at (408) 277-4166. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-STOP (7867).
