Vacaville teen arrested for allegedly robbing store at gunpoint
Vacaville Police arrested a teen Thursday afternoon on suspicion of robbery at gunpoint.
Robert Lee Edwards, 18, is suspected of robbing the Metro PCS store in the Golden Hills Plaza on Alamo Drive at about 12:47 p.m. Witnesses stated seeing Edwards walk into the Metro PCS store wearing dark clothing, and allegedly in possession of a hand gun, which witnesses told police he showed to one of the store’s employees and asked for cash. He then ran out of the store.
According to Vacaville Reporter, police arrived at the scene, finding a handgun in the pocket of a black hoodie that was thrown in a trash bin behind the store. The handgun was determined to be an airsoft gun.
A Vacaville Community Service officer spotted Edwards as matching the description of the robbery suspect a short time later on Ogden Way. Edwards attempted to hide behind a pickup truck, but was detained and searched.
Officers allegedly found Edwards to have a large amount of cash on him, according to Vacaville Reporter. Edwards afterward positively identified by the Metro PCS store employee in an in-field line up.
Edwards, who did not have identification on him at the time of his arrest, was fingerprinted and identified to have been on probation.
He was booked at Solano County Jail. A press release issued by the Vacaville Police Department stated the investigation was taken over by the Investigative Services Section. Vacaville police are asking anyone with information regarding the robbery to contact Detective Nathan Benevides at 469-4724.
