Personal Trainer Charged in Sexual Assault of a Minor
REDLANDS – Relands Police arrested a 44-year-old personal trainer on Friday for sexual assault of a 16-year-old, and later discovered a second victim.
Mauricio Mario Ortiz of Redlands was arrested after police served search warrants at his home in the 1500 block of Brookside Ave., said Carl Baker, police information officer.
Ortiz operated a personal training business, “Fitness by Mauricio,” that is currently located at 390 Alabama St., only a few miles from his home. Baker said the 16-year-old reported Ortiz sexually assaulted her at his training gym. Since the investigation began, Baker said a second victim, who was 17 at the time, has since come forward “with similar allegations.”
The assault on the 16-year-old occurred on Jan. 4, said Baker. Investigators then discovered a 17-year-old who said she was assaulted by Ortiz in Loma Linda in the summer of 2010. Police seized evidence that included cameras, computers and photos at Ortiz’s Brookside Ave. apartment.
Ortiz is said to have violated the statute rape with a foreign object while the victim was unconscious, including a charge of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor. At this time Ortiz has only been charged in the sexual assault of the 16-year-old.
Ortiz has operated his training business at various locations in the area, including a Citrus Ave. spot in downtown Redlands, Mountain View Ave. and Barton Rd. in Loma Linda. He has been at the Alabama St. location since October 2010.
Baker said investigators believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone with information to contact Det. Andy Capps (909-798-7642) or Redlands police dispatch (909-798-7681).
