Fairfield man arrested for alleged carjacking after chase ends in Sacramento
Police arrested a Fairfield man on Monday after he allegedly carjacked a woman who was sitting in her vehicle with two other women.
According to the Daily Republic, the man allegedly approached the 2005 white Toyota Corolla on the 1900 block of North Texas Street and began punching the driver side window while he yelled at the women inside to leave. The driver, a 22-year-old Fairfield resident, and her passengers, a 20-year-old Suisun City resident and an 18-year-old Fairfield resident, left the car as the man got into the vehicle.
The man, later identified as 27-year-old Fairfield resident Jamaal Storms, then drove the vehicle north on North Texas Street. Police were then notified of the incident and issued a countrywide bulletin for the car.
Fairfield police and Solano County sheriff’s deputies spotted the suspect on Interstate 80 in Vacaville near the point where it intersects with Interstate 505. Storms led law enforcement on a chase until he pulled over on Interstate 80 at West El Camino Boulevard in Sacramento, according to the Daily Republic.
Storms was arrested on suspicion of carjacking, attempted carjacking, evading arrest, possession of stolen property, and parole violation. According to the Daily Republic, police learned Storms tried to take a car prior to the white Toyota, but the driver of the vehicle was able to drive away before he could take it.
According to the Daily Republic, police also learned Storms was on parole through the state Department of Corrections and had just been released from prison the previous Friday. Storms did not give a statement after police arrested him, but was identified by each of the victims of the carjacking.
