Attempted rape thwarted by bicyclist

A woman reported being attacked while walking on a path near Mustang Village last Tuesday evening.

According to the San Luis Obispo Police Department, officers were contacted by members of the Cal Poly Police Department who advised them of an attempted sexual assault near the Cal Poly Campus. The 19-year-old female victim, according to SLOPD, was transported to its department. Officers say they were told the attempted assault occurred on the 100 block of California Blvd., according to police.

The victim, who is a resident of SLO, told officers she walking on the path between the 100 block of California Blvd. and Mustang Village around 6 p.m. She told investigators that while on the path she was attacked from behind and forced to the ground.

She said after she was forced to the ground she was able to identify her attackers as three black male adults.  She also told police that while on the ground she believed the suspects were attempting to sexually assault her. During the assault, according to the victim, a bicyclist was approaching in the distance, which caused the suspects to stop and run from the area.

The victim said she was unable to provide any additional information regarding the description of the three suspects. It is unknown if the bicyclist was interviewed by SLOPD or if any other witnesses came forward at the time of press.
