Crime Stoppers nets illegal firearm sales

A Cambria man was arrested Wednesday for the illegal sale of firearms out of his business. San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s detectives, after following a tip received from Crime Stoppers, arrested Larry Thomas Preston, 60, for being a felon in possession of firearms and illegal sale/transfer of firearms.

According to a Sheriff’s press release, detectives made a buy of a weapon advertised for sale at the man’s business, Preston’s Antiques & Collectibles, located at 1500 Main Street in Cambria.

Sheriffs say cash was exchanged and Preston provided the undercover detective with a firearm. Preston allegedly bypassed the mandatory record of sale and state required paperwork which would have revealed his criminal record as a felon.

Deputies, according to the press release, seized several other firearms and evidence of additional sales from the business.

Preston was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on felon in possession of a firearm. His bail was set at $20,000, which he posted.

The sheriff’s department is looking for anyone who has purchased firearms from Preston. Anyone with information should call Detective Robert Burgeson at 781-4521.
