Man shot and killed in front of Rite Aid in Hanford
HANFORD – With dozens of people around, shots rang out and a man was left dead in front of a Rite Aid in Hanford on Monday evening.
The incident happened at the Rite Aid Pharmacy located at 707 W. Lacey Blvd near 11th Avenue at around 5:40 p.m. Police arrived on the scene around 5:45 p.m. and found the victim, 36-year-old Armando Ramirez, Jr., suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was transported to Adventist Medical Center, where he died.
The shooting happened with many people nearby.
“For something this violent to happen at the time it did, when it’s very busy out, there are a lot of witnesses,” said Capt. Parker Sever with the Hanford Police Department.
Police say that with so many witnesses, it can be hard to sort through all the statements.
“There are a lot of interviews to be conducted, that have been conducted, a lot of evidence to sort through,” Sever said. “It is also difficult when so many people see what happened because they all see from a different point of view and a different perspective.”
The suspect has been described as a Hispanic man in a dark-colored suit and a white baseball cap. According to witnesses, he fled the scene in a white and beige Ford Explorer with custom rims. Later that evening, investigators found the car abandoned a few blocks from the crime scene.
Police suspect the shooting may be gang related; however, they are still actively investigating any motive for the crime or why it happened, Sever said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Hanford Police Detective Richard Pontecorvo at (559) 585-2535.
