Police Arrest 3 In Fatal Stabbing From March 4
SAN BERNARDINO – A police lieutenant said media assistance provided investigators with enough information to make three arrests on Monday in connection with a March 4 stabbing that killed a San Bernardino man.
Two men, Vincent Ruiz, 32, of Colton, and Michael Baisa, 31, of Colton, along with a woman, Karen Sue Esquivel, 40, of Rialto were taken into custody on suspicion of murder. Andy Nath, 25, of San Bernardino, had been found stabbed and suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper torso, police said. He was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he died from his injuries about one hour later.
The incident took place at the Pool Club at 1946 South E St. During their investigation, detectives received information from the public that assisted in the identification of the suspects. “The evidence in the investigation included video (footage),” said Lt. Paul Williams.
Police provided that video to media outlets, he said, which proved important. “The assistance of the media outlets provided by airing the video and photography greatly assisted in identifying the three involved,” said Williams.
Officers initially responded to the Pool Club on the stabbing. Police said an argument inside the club led to the eventual crime. “It does not appear the suspects knew the victim prior to the incident,” said Williams. “There was a verbal altercation prior to the incident that led to the subjects meeting in the parking lot.”
Ruiz and Esquivel were arrested in separate houses in Colton while Baisa was taken into custody at his place of employment in Rancho Cucamonga, which is about 20 minutes from San Bernardino. Two search warrants were executed in Colton, said Williams, seeking evidence to the crime.
