Search grows for Sierra LaMar

Sheriff’s search and rescue teams will be conducting further searches in Morgan Hill today for missing 15-year-old Sierra LaMar.

LaMar was last seen on March 16 leaving her home in unincorporated Morgan Hill for school, but she never made it to class.

Investigators will begin their search at about 2 p.m. and will go until sunset. Search parameters will include areas north of Palm Avenue and south of Bailey Road, including the Coyote Creek area and Anderson Reservoir. The search will also include the Monterey Road area west to the foothills.

Additionally, officials say, the sheriff’s department dive team unit will be searching Uvas Reservoir and Parkway Lakes today. The dive team began their search on Tuesday by checking Calero Reservoir and Chesbro Reservoir. Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Jose Cardoza said a specially trained search and rescue K9 will be on boats with dive team members. The dog specializes in water-borne detection and no actual diving will take place unless the dog detects possible human remains in the water.

So far in the investigation, more than 3,000 personnel hours have been dedicated to the case, including the sheriff’s department, FBI, and other agency hours. More than 500 tips have come in via phone calls and emails. Cardoza said all tips are evaluated and followed up on by investigators.

Anyone with information on the Sierra LaMar case is asked to contact sheriff’s investigators at (408) 808-4500 or the anonymous tip line at (408) 808-4431. Tips can also be emailed to tips@sheriff.sccgov.org.
