Folsom police search for prison escapee
On Monday, April 16, the Folsom Police Department (FPD) announced they are seeking information on an inmate escapee from the Folsom State Prison, who was also a suspect in an automobile theft, according to a release issued through Nixle.com.
On Sunday, April 15, at 9:19pm, the FPD reportedly received an emergency call reporting a stolen vehicle on the 100 block of Esplanade Circle in the Folsom neighborhood of Empire Ranch. The victim told dispatchers his neighbors had blocked the stolen vehicle from leaving, however after a slight collision with a water main, the suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot into the nearly wetlands area. After FPD officers reportedly searched for two hours with members of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department, and California Highway Patrol, and then called the search off.
According to the FPD’s release, 20 minutes after the initial report, the California State Prison – Sacramento advised they had an escapee from their minimum support facility located approximately three miles from the scene of the vehicle theft. Further investigation by FPD officers confirmed that inmate Marco Cabrera, 32, of Tulare County was the suspect in the Esplanade car theft.
Cabrera is described by the FPD as a Hispanic male adult, 5’7” tall, approximately 200 pounds. He was last seen the evening of Sunday, April 15 with a shaved head, wearing shorts with no shirt. He reportedly faces auto theft and robbery charges related to the Folsom investigation.
