SLOPD catches sly burglar

The San Luis Obispo Police Department has arrested a suspect who allegedly burglarized a home and threated the resident with a knife.

Police say they responded to a call at around 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday on the 1100 block of Orcutt Road regarding an interrupted residential burglary. According to SLOPD, prior to officer’s arrival the suspect threatened the home owner with a knife and fled the area on a bicycle.

Micah James Edson faces multiple charges after his burglary arrest

Police say while searching the area, officers found Micah James Edson, 38, a transient of San Luis Obispo, in a nearby parking lot hiding in a pick-up truck.  Edson was positively identified by the victim and placed under arrest. Police say during the search of Edson’s property he was found to be in possession of numerous items of stolen property including property taken from the Orcutt residence. According to police, was also in possession of property stolen from two recent vehicle burglaries, as well as a commercial burglary.

Police say they also found small quantities of heroin, methamphetamine and additional drug paraphernalia and on his person.

Investigators say prior to this incident, San Luis Obispo Police Detectives were investigating Edson on charges of embezzlement from the UPS store on Foothill Road in SLO.  Edson was charged with residential burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of stolen property, possession of heroin and methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and embezzlement.

Edson was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail with bail set at $50,000.
