May 16 – Goleta
A woman seated at a reading table in the Goleta Valley Public Library on Tuesday, May 15th, looked up from her book to respond to verbal comments made by a male patron seated nearby. When she made visual contact with him, according to Drew Sugars, Santa Barbara County Sheriff Public Information Officer, “the male made sexually explicit comments to her while in the commission of a lewd act in her presence.”
The female victim took no uncertain offense at both the verbal comments and the visual assault, and summarily alerted library staff to the affront, whereupon a 911 Emergency call was placed to summon law enforcement.
At that time, the suspect fled the premises with all due alacrity. Shortly thereafter responding Goleta Police units found him walking nearby outside the library building. “Contact was made with Michael Eugene Goodwin” Sugars reported, and pursuant to investigation, the 69-year-old was arrested and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail where he was booked on charges of committing a lewd act and held on $2500 bail.
