Man with gun arrested for attempted murder
San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s deputies arrested an Oceano man for attempted murder after he pointed a gun at another man and the weapon misfired.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched to a report of a subject with a gun on Tuesday around 5:15 p.m. in the 300 block McCarthy Avenue in Oceano. According to the 35-year-old male victim, whose identity is not being released, the suspect, Brandon James Logsdon Rietkerk, 28, pulled a gun out, pointed it at the victim and then pulled the trigger. The victim and the suspect started fighting after the gun misfired.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, the suspect was attempting to leave the scene in a vehicle when deputies arrived at the location. Rietkerk was detained and transported to the hospital by ambulance for injuries he sustained in the altercation. He was later arrested and transported to the San Luis Obispo County Jail.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, no other suspects are being sought at this time. The victim was treated at the scene for his injuries he sustained in the altercation with Rietkerk.
