May 27 – Santa Barbara County
Santa Barbara County Sheriffs Detectives have issued an “all points bulletin” to the general public in their search for an armed robbery suspect plying his trade in Isla Vista, the unincorporated, densely-populated commercial and residential area immediately adjacent to the idyllic UCSB campus.
Drew Sugars, SBSD Public Information Officer, released to the media and the public at large video images of an armed robbery taking place on May 19th at a walk-up ATM machine in midtown Isla Vista, ostensibly in plain view of numerous passersby. “The female victim was in disbelief and thought it was some sort of prank,” Sugars reported, but she apparently detected a verifiable level of sincerity when her assailant repeated his command to give him her money…at knifepoint.
The female victim surrendered her cash, and the suspect immediately fled the area eastbound on foot, heading toward the UCSB campus. “There were dozens of people around,” Sugars said, but only the victim could give a complete description of a white male in his early twenties, six feet tall, wearing a black baseball hat, striped hoody sweatshirt, and shorts.
The victim’s description and statement “are fully supported by the surveillance video” Sugars said when releasing it to the media.
Members of the public having any knowledge of these events or the identity of the suspect are urged to contact the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Anonymous Tip Line at (805) 681-4171
