June 8 – Santa Barbara
The rural pre-dawn quiet of East Valley Road in Montecito was shattered on the morning of June 6th when a speeding vehicle ran down two pedestrians, killing one and severely injuring another.
According to Drew Sugars, Santa Barbara County Sheriff Public Information Officer, Allison Meadows, 26, and Lindsay Keebler, 25, were discovered by two male motorists who were described as “genuine good samaritans”. The two men transported the women to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital while making a 911 Emergency call to the California Highway Patrol.
With that notice, units from CHP, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, and Santa Barbara Police Department arrived at Cottage Hospital to learn that Meadows had succumbed to major head trauma injuries. Deputies conducted interviews of the men who had transported Meadows and Keebler and immediately went to the East Valley Road location just east of Stonehouse Lane to investigate the accident scene.
“We immediately reached out to the community for any information about the accident,” Sugars reported, indicating that while traffic at that time of day was light, there were possible witnesses to the hit-and-run who identified the suspect vehicle as a 2006 Toyota 4-Runner.
Pursuant to a vigorous 48 hour investigation, mid-day on June 8th California Highway Patrol deputies located and arrested L. Tryone Richardson, 28, on charges of vehicular manslaughter. Richardson was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail with bail set at $500,000.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Sugars announced to the media as he urged any member of the public with additional information to contact Santa Barbara County Sheriff headquarters or the California Highway Patrol at (805) 477-4174.
