Woman shot Sunday after leaving Vallejo party
Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on Interstate 80 early Sunday morning.
According to the Vallejo Times Herald, at about 1:25 a.m., a 57-year-old Newark woman was traveling on Interstate 80 from a party she left in Vallejo, said Richmond Police.
The woman heard a popping sound and discovered that she had blood on her throat while driving west on the I-80 near the Hilltop Drive exit, Richmond police Sgt. Roger Buhlis said. The woman, whose name was not released by police, survived the shooting. She is in stable condition.
According to the Vallejo Times Herald, the woman did not report seeing any vehicles on the road at the time of the shooting. It is unclear at this point if the shooting was done from a car or the side of the freeway. Police do not believe the woman was targeted, Buhlis said.
Police found damage to the victim’s vehicle, a Lexus, where a bullet passed through the rear passenger side door and through the head rest of the front passenger seat before she was struck by the bullet.
According to the Vallejo Times Herald, the woman drove herself to the hospital and reported the attack about 30 minutes later.
